8. Will 22TCM finally get its due? Is it really as good as 5.7x28mm?
YES and YES! Haven’t heard of the 22TCM (Tuason Craig Micromagnum) round yet? The round was developed by Armscor Ammunition (sister company to Rock Island Armory who makes more 1911’s than anyone else in the world!) and is a stunner! The cartridge is a 5.56 casing necked down for a 22 long-rifle projectile.

22TCM Specs
22TCM – With muzzle velocity of 1,875 fps (handgun) with a 40 grain weight bullet.
5.7x28mm – Muzzle velocity of 1,655 fps (handgun)
Recoil
Recoil for these two rounds is minimal and similar. If you haven’t shot them, the recoil is somewhere in-between a 22 long-rifle round and a 9mm. The 22TMC also produces a large fireball out of the muzzle due to the large amount of gun powder in the 5.56 casing.
Price Per Round
Again, the 22TCM round wins again at $0.33 per round versus $0.44 per round for 5.7x28mm.

Verdict

The other thing that makes the 22TCM guns by Rock Island Armory so great is that they give you a 9mm barrel as well as the 22TCM barrel so that way if you can’t find the 22TCM round, you can always swap out the barrel for a 9mm. Also, all Rock Island Armory firearms come with a lifetime warranty! While I am a big fan of the FN 5.7x28mm round, you can get the 22TCM pistol for about half the cost of an FN Five-Seven and the ammo is about half the price, making the 22TCM a winner and a round that deserves it due.
