Hey all, we here at True Shot Academy wanted to shine the spotlight on a new product that we started carrying. We recently started carrying Holosun’s EPS and want to provide an informative blog post about our new offering. Our goal here today is to provide you with an overview of this new mini red dot offering while delving into some of its features, traits and more. Without further ado, let’s examine Holosun’s EPS.
Holosun is a company well-known for their production of affordable electronic sights. Their product offerings span from pistol and rifle optics to more exotic offerings such as IR lasers, illuminators, and recently night vision and thermal optics. Holosun’s products have been utilized for duty use, competition, and recreational use by shooters of all types. The company is well-known for providing economically priced optics, with the flashlights they introduced last year bering no exception.
The company is well-known for providing affordable optics and implementing a variety of features into their products. Many Holosun optics feature user adjustable reticles, allowing end users to swap between different reticles on the fly. Many of the sights offered by Holosun also feature solar panels which either support an onboard battery or act as a backup source of power to the optic.
The EPS red dot from Holosun represents another one of the company’s ventures into the realm of enclosed emitter red dot sights. Like the name suggests, red dot sights of this type differ from open emitter designs as they feature an enclosed emitter within the optic housing. This design choice allows for the protection of the emitter, an important component which can become obscured or damaged on open emitter examples. The specific EPS model that we are offering comes with the 2 MOA reticle, providing shooters with a crisp reticle which allows for precise shooting and will not obscure the target.
The optic features a 7075 T6 aluminum housing and boasts IP68 dust proof and IPX8 waterproof certifications. Holosun utilizes aspherical glass lenses in their EPS optic, providing a clear sight picture and eliminating distortion. Additionally, in a departure from other enclosed emitter optics, the Holosun EPS sits very low when mounted. This means that this non-bulky optic can be utilized with many factory iron sights when mounted on the slide of a handgun.
The EPS from Holosun offers a wide range of features that shooters of all types find desirable. Everyone from competitors, concealed carriers, and recreational shooters can appreciate the various features packed into the optic. Typically, feature rich optics are accompanied by high price tags, this is not the case with the EPS. The EPS represents a capable and feature packed optic which simply will not break the bank.
The Holosun EPS mounting footprint is essentially a modified version of the RMSc footprint. In addition to being natively compatible with RMSc mounting solutions, the EPS also includes an adapter plate for the RMR footprint. This means that RMR mounting solutions, whether on picatinny rails or on pistol slides will accept the EPS with this adapter plate. This mounting versatility allows the sight to be mounted on a variety of platforms such as pistols, rifles, shotguns, and PCCs.
Holosun’s EPS red dot sight is powered by a single 1620 battery cell. This battery is easily swapped out via the tray on the right sight of the optic. This tray slides into the housing and is retained by a screw which is easily removed with common flathead screwdrivers. Though, with a stated battery life of up to 50,000 hours, one will not need to swap batteries often. Of course, battery life is ultimately dependent upon the level of brightness one uses and whether one shuts off their optic when not in use.
Typically, shooters will either leave red dots on constantly or turn them off when not in use to conserve battery. Holosun’s Shake Awake Technology provides shooters with a solution which allows for immediate action and battery conservation. Simply put, after a period of inactivity in which the sight detects no movement, the optic will shut down, conserving power. While in this dormant state, if the sight detects movement, it will power on and resume function at the last brightness level used.
The Holosun EPS red dot features a total of 12 brightness settings. Eight of these settings are going to be daylight bright levels of intensity while the other four correspond to night vision compatible settings. The eight daylight settings allow an end user to select a brightness level well-suited to their type of shooting and environment. The night vision compatible settings allow the optic to produce a reticle at a brightness level safe for use with night vision goggles. Brightness is adjusted by pressing the plus and minus buttons conveniently located on the left side of the optic.
All in all, Holosun’s EPS red dot sight represents a versatile and affordable optic. The EPS’s various features such as compatibility with a common mounting footprint, enclosed nature, and Shake Awake Technology allow it to appeal to shooters of all types. Additionally, the EPS is one of the most feature packed and competitively priced enclosed emitter red dot sights on the market. At an affordable price point and offering many desired features, the Holosun EPS represents a great value.
