Best .22 Long Rifle Pistol Ammo

Hey all, today we wanted to go over a few options for .22 Long Rifle ammunition that would be a good fit for your pistol. We here at True Shot Academy put together a list of five choices of ammunition that would be viable in most .22 Long Rifle pistols that are on the market today. Without further ado, lets get into this list.

Winchester .22 Long Rifle 36 Grain Hollow Point

The lightest load on this list, these 36 grain hollow points from Winchester are a great choice for your .22 Long Rifle chambered pistol. The light 36 grain projectiles present in these rounds are conducive to high velocities, allowing them to function in a litany of semi-automatic handguns. The copper-plated projectiles featured with this loading will help your pistol stay cleaner and reduce barrel wear, making for a relatively clean and reliable shooting trip. This offering from Winchester is available in quantities of 222 or 2,220 rounds.

Aguila Super Extra .22 Long Rifle 38 Grain CP-HVHP

This offering from Aguila’s Super Extra line features 38 grain copper-plated hollow point projectiles. The lighter grain weight of this loading lends itself well to higher velocities, making this fast load an excellent choice for semi-automatic .22 Long Rifle pistol use.

One will find this load running “cleaner” in their pistol thanks to the copper-plating featured on the projectiles themselves. This loading provides the shooter with a high velocity round that is consistent and reliable in a wide variety of .22 Long Rifle chambered handguns. This offering is available in quantities of 500 or 2,000 rounds.

Magtech .22 Long Rifle 40 Grain Lead Round Nose

Rather than featuring copper-plated projectiles, these rounds from Magtech have an exposed lead soft point. An important thing to keep in mind with exposed lead projectiles is that they will make your pistol dirtier than their plated counterparts.

What this means at the end of the day is that you will simply need to clean your pistol more often. At the end of the day, all ammunition is dirty. That being said, this option from Magtech is a good candidate for use in a semi-automatic pistol. This offering from Magtech is available in quantities of 500 or 5,000 rounds.

Stated Velocity: 1,135 Feet Per Second

Armscor .22 Long Rifle 40 Grain SVSP

These 40 grain soft points offered by Armscor are also a fitting option for pistol use. Though this is a standard velocity loading, it should function in some semi-automatic handgun offerings, such as the Mark IV and 22/45 pistols offered by Ruger. These copper-plated soft point projectiles are well suited for plinking and target shooting applications. This offering from Armscor is available in quantities of 50, 500, and 5,000 rounds.

Winchester Super X .22 Long Rifle 40 Grain PPCP

The 40 grain Power Point Copper Plated (PPCP) hollow point projectiles make this loading well-suited for target shooting and hunting applications alike. The higher velocity of this round will help ensure reliable function in an array of semi-automatic pistols. The hollow point projectiles coupled with this high velocity help ensure the effectiveness of this load in small game hunting applications. This offering from Winchester is available in quantities of 100 or 2,000 rounds.

Conclusion

We here at True Shot Academy ultimately wanted to provide options that would function reliably in the widest variety of pistols possible. While other viable options exist, we also wanted to stick to ammunition that we currently had in stock at the time of writing and were also popular among some of our customers.

We specifically focused on loads that would function in semi-automatic pistols as they have the highest dependency on quality ammunition to reliably function. In the world of .22 Long Rifle, revolvers are not as ammunition sensitive as their semi-automatic counterparts, making them able to accept all of the ammunition on this list and more.

At the end of the day, we here at True Shot are here to help you with your ammunition needs, rimfire or otherwise and have a wide selection of ammunition for your consideration. As always, we want you to be the best shooter you can be and would love to help you on that journey. Happy shooting.
