Metal ammo cans are going to be more resistant to heat and potential fire damage than their plastic counterparts, but they are not fireproof by any means. Like many of the safes on the market, some metal ammo cans may resist fire for a certain amount of time before significant damage occurs to the container. However, there are more things to consider with ammo cans storing live
ammunition. If enough consistent heat is applied to the ammo can, it will essentially act like a Dutch oven and cook its contents. If there is live

A variety of locking mechanisms can be utilized to lock ammo cans of the metal variety. One can find locks purpose-built for use on metal, G.I. style ammo cans which turn them into lockable storage devices. By adding a lock to your ammo can, you can ensure that the container is relatively tamper proof. It should also be noted that if someone really wanted to get into one of these ammo cans, locked or not, they could do so with tools. There are certainly more secure and stationary methods for storing valuables and sensitive items, but a locked ammo can will certainly help deter prying fingers.
