About Blackout Defense
Hey all, we here at True Shot Academy are going to be talking about Blackout Defense. The company has earned a reputation as a manufacturer of premium firearms and components in recent years. Our goal here is to provide a brief overview of the company and some of their traits, products, and services. Without further ado, let’s get into it.
What is Blackout Defense?
Blackout Defense is a company based in Chandler, Arizona which manufactures high quality triggers, firearms, and other accessories and components. The company has roots in the aerospace industry, having done work for big industry names such as Boeing, Raytheon, and Honeywell. This background essentially means that the company has a high level of experience in producing high-quality products while adhering to tight tolerances and levels of quality assurance. This is also reflective of their manufacturing capabilities.
The company manufactures an overwhelming majority of their major parts and components in house, allowing the company to ensure that quality production can take place. The in-house manufacturing capabilities of the company allow them to constantly test and develop new products, allowing them to adapt to changes in the industry and continue to innovate. In addition to their triggers, the company has become well-known for their Dual Taper Lock (DTL) system. Essentially, the DTL system features two interlocking barrel nuts and two tapers, a mounting solution which helps center the barrel and handguard and resists axial movement. The result is a rigid handguard and barrel package which is conducive to accuracy and overall rigidity. This system can be acquired in both the form of upper receiver groups and complete firearms.

Triggers
The company is well-known for producing a number of drop-in triggers for AR-10, AR-15, and Sig MCX designs. The triggers are of a drop-in, cassette style design and are single stage in nature. The aptly-named Zero triggers feature zero takeup, zero creep, and feature a prompt and distinct reset. Blackout Defense’s triggers will have zero excess movement in the trigger pull process, making them consistent and very fast.
The triggers for AR-15 style firearms are available with either a 3 lb or 4.5 lb pull weight. Triggers for the AR-10 and MCX platforms are available with 4.5 lb pull weight. Triggers can be had with flat, curved, or hybrid trigger profiles. Flat triggers feature a straight trigger profile, similar to those found on higher-end 1911s. Curved triggers feature a familiar and traditional trigger profile like those found on most firearms you will encounter. Triggers of the hybrid variety feature a trigger profile that bridges the gap between a flat and curved trigger.
Essentially, one will be provided with a crisp and reliable trigger pull with a Blackout Defense trigger. The multitude of options afforded to customers when it comes to triggers truly allows them to find a Zero trigger which best fits their preferences.
Rifles
The company manufactures complete AR-15 style rifles. On the company’s site, one can browse popular configurations or custom build a rifle of their own. The non-custom/popular configuration rifles can be had with either 13.9” or 16” barrel and include KeyMo Hybrid muzzle devices and 3lb flat triggers and are available in a variety of colors.
Custom building a rifle through Blackout Defense affords the customer a higher degree of control over how their rifle will be configured. One can choose the specific color of major components of their build such as the receivers, furniture, hardware and handguard. One is also able to customize other aspects of the rifle such as the particular trigger profile and pull weight of their trigger.
Whether you are buying something from the popular configurations or building a DTL rifle of your own, you will be receiving a premium rifle. It should also be known that the company offers solutions which are compliant with less-than-free states such as California. This means that even those in restricted states can get ahold of Blackout Defense rifles in a compliant form.
Muzzle Devices
Blackout Defense also produces a variety of muzzle devices. Most of the muzzle devices offered by Blackout Defense utilize Dead Air’s KeyMo suppressor mounting design. Notably, the company produces a modern rendition of the muzzle device utilized on the German FG42 from the Second World War. The company also offers their Horizon compensator if you are more concerned with reducing recoil than suppression.
