New Product: Holosun EPS
Table of Contents
Hey all, we here at True Shot Academy wanted to shine the spotlight on a new product that we started carrying. We recently started carrying Holosun’s EPS and want to provide an informative blog post about our new offering. Our goal here today is to provide you with an overview of this new mini red dot offering while delving into some of its features, traits, and more. Without further ado, let’s examine Holosun’s EPS.
Who is Holosun?
Holosun is a company well-known for their production of affordable electronic sights. Their product offerings span from pistol and rifle optics to more exotic offerings such as IR lasers, illuminators, and recently night vision and thermal optics. Holosun's products have been utilized for duty use, competition, and recreational use by shooters of all types. The company is well-known for providing economically priced optics, with the flashlights they introduced last year being no exception.
Many Holosun optics feature user-adjustable reticles, allowing end users to swap between different reticles on the fly. Many of the sights offered by Holosun also feature solar panels which either support an onboard battery or act as a backup source of power to the optic.
The Holosun EPS Red Dot
The EPS red dot from Holosun represents another one of the company’s ventures into the realm of enclosed emitter red dot sights. Like the name suggests, red dot sights of this type differ from open emitter designs as they feature an enclosed emitter within the optic housing. This design protects the emitter, an important component which can become obscured or damaged in open emitter examples. The specific EPS model that we are offering comes with the 2 MOA reticle, providing shooters with a crisp aiming point that allows for precision without obscuring the target.
The optic features a 7075-T6 aluminum housing and boasts IP68 dustproof and IPX8 waterproof certifications. Holosun utilizes aspherical glass lenses in the EPS optic, providing a clear sight picture and eliminating distortion. Additionally, unlike many other enclosed emitter optics, the Holosun EPS sits very low when mounted, allowing many handguns to co-witness with factory iron sights.
The EPS offers a wide range of features that appeal to all types of shooters—from competitors to concealed carriers and recreational users. Typically, feature-rich optics carry a high price tag, but that is not the case here. The EPS represents a capable and feature-packed optic that won’t break the bank.
What Mounting Footprint Does the Holosun EPS Use?
The Holosun EPS mounting footprint is a modified version of the RMSc footprint. In addition to being natively compatible with RMSc mounting solutions, the EPS also includes an adapter plate for the RMR footprint. This means that RMR mounting solutions—whether on Picatinny rails or pistol slides—will accept the EPS with the included adapter plate. This versatility allows it to be mounted on pistols, rifles, shotguns, and pistol-caliber carbines (PCCs).
Expected Battery Life
The Holosun EPS red dot sight is powered by a single CR1620 battery cell. The battery can be easily swapped via the tray on the right side of the optic, secured with a small screw that can be removed using a flathead screwdriver. With a stated battery life of up to 50,000 hours, users won’t need to change batteries frequently. Actual battery life will depend on brightness settings and whether the optic is manually turned off between uses.
Shake Awake Technology
Typically, shooters either leave red dots on constantly or turn them off between uses to conserve battery. Holosun’s Shake Awake Technology offers a smarter approach by detecting inactivity. After a preset period without movement, the optic automatically powers down to save energy. Once movement is detected, it powers back on instantly at the last used brightness level—ensuring immediate readiness and efficient battery use.
Brightness Settings
The Holosun EPS red dot features 12 brightness settings: eight daylight and four night vision-compatible levels. The daylight settings provide intensity options for bright environments, while the night vision-compatible settings ensure safe use with NV devices. Brightness adjustments are made using the plus and minus buttons located conveniently on the optic’s left side.
Conclusion
All in all, the Holosun EPS red dot sight represents a versatile and affordable optic. Its compatibility with common mounting footprints, enclosed design, and Shake Awake technology make it a standout choice. Offering premium features at a competitive price, the EPS delivers exceptional value.
