The Holosun EPS

Hey all, we here at True Shot Academy are going to look at the Holosun EPS red dot sight today. This optic is one of the more popular offerings from Holosun due to its versatility, features, and affordability. As we cover the EPS, we are going to delve into things such as features, traits, use cases, and more. Without further ado, let’s talk about the Holosun EPS.

Who is Holosun?

Holosun is a company well-known for their production of affordable electronic sights. Their product offerings span from pistol and rifle optics to more exotic offerings such as IR lasers, illuminators, and recently night vision and thermal optics and flashlights. Holosun products have been utilized for duty use, competition, and recreational use by shooters of all types. The company is well-known for providing economically priced optics, and the flashlights introduced by the company last year are no exception.

The company is well-known for providing affordable optics and implementing a variety of features into their products. Many Holosun optics feature user adjustable reticles, allowing end users to swap between different reticles on the fly. Many of the sights offered by Holosun also feature solar panels which either support an onboard battery or act as a backup source of power to the optic.

What is the EPS?

The EPS is a micro red dot sight offering from Holosun. Aptly named, the Enclosed Pistol Sight, or EPS, is well-suited for use on optics ready handguns and a variety of other firearms. As an enclosed optic, the EPS is protected from things such as grime, dust, lint, and the elements. The housing of the optic essentially protects the emitter from damage and distortion, always allowing for a clear projection. Notably, the optic’s housing hosts large lenses which provide users with a large field of view. Additionally, the EPS is rated as IP68 dust and waterproof and features a 7075 aluminum housing. This optic is quite versatile as it is available in various styles and configurations which are well-suited to the preferences of many shooters.

EPS Variants

There are multiple variants of the Holosun EPS red dot sight. These sights can be had in either the standard or EPS Carry configuration. Like the name suggests, the Carry variant of the EPS is optimal for concealed carry and features a smaller profile. Both styles of the optic can be had with either red or green colored reticles, appealing to the preferences of many shooters. These models can be had with different sizes of reticles. Additionally, end users can choose certain models with premium features such as the company’s Multiple Reticle System and Solar Failsafe Technology. Currently, the specific model of the EPS that we here at True Shot Ammo carry is the red 2 MOA variant of the EPS.

Mounting Footprint

Per the manual of the Holosun EPS, the sight is compatible with “some standard mounting solutions” that can be found on the market. This is to say that the sight will work with many existing mounting solutions and can be adapted to others. From the factory, the standard EPS (specifically, the type that we carry) includes an RMR footprint adapter plate. Out of the box with this included plate, the EPS is easily accommodated by mounting solutions compatible with the RMR footprint. This allows an end user to mount this optic on anything from a handgun’s slide to a rifle. Speaking of rifle use, this optic can easily be used as either a primary optic or secondary optic in the form of an offset or piggyback red dot sight.

Brightness Settings

The EPS red dot sight from Holosun comes equipped with a total of 12 brightness settings. 8 of these 12 settings are intended for daytime use. The remaining 4 settings are dedicated night vision settings and are intended for use with night vision optics. These multiple brightness settings are cycled through via the “+” and “-“ buttons located on the left side of the optic.

Battery Life

The Holosun EPS boasts a stated battery life of 50,000 hours. The EPS comes from the factory with a single CR1620 battery which is used to power the optic. This battery, like on many other Holosun red dot sights, is loaded via a tray on the side of the optic. The tray is retained with a screw which ensures the battery stays in place when installed. Of course, the overall battery life of the optic is ultimately dependent upon the brightness level one uses and how often the sight is powered.

Shake Awake Technology

Notably, the Holosun EPS features the company’s Shake Awake technology. This battery saving feature is present on both the Core and full-featured variants of the EPS. Shake Awake technology relies on a motion sensor which powers the LED in the optic off after detecting 10 minutes of inactivity. When movement is detected again, the LED will power back on without requiring user input. This feature can be adjusted from 10 minutes to 12 hours or even disabled completely if desired by the user. Put plainly, the Shake Awake technology afforded battery saving capabilities which do not compromise the readiness of the optic.
