The Steiner MPS

Hey all, we here at True Shot Academy are going to go over the Steiner MPS red dot sight today. This red dot recently entered the market and has become popular with many shooters. Due to its small size, the optic is viable for use on many platforms and for many use cases. Today we are going to examine the Steiner MPS and delve into its many traits, features, and other considerations. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the Steiner MPS red dot sight.

Who is Steiner?

Steiner is a German optics manufacturer that was founded in 1947, shortly after the end of World War Two. Despite the postwar chaos and disarray, Karl Steiner was able to establish a workshop in Bayreuth, Germany. It was at this workshop that optic production began, born from Steiner’s desire to produce reliable and sturdy optical products. The company focused on binocular production for 65 years before starting production of riflescopes in 2012. These initial scope offerings catered to hunters and military end users. 2012 and 2015 saw Steiner expand into electronic optics with the acquisition of Laser Devices Inc. and Sensor Technology Systems. These acquisitions allowed the company to branch into the production of laser devices as well as electronic optics.

What is the Steiner MPS?

The Steiner MPS, or Micro Pistol Sight, is a micro red dot sight with a fully enclosed emitter. This is to say that the emitter is contained within the optic and cannot be disrupted by external means. Things such as lint, rain, or other debris or obstructions simply cannot interfere with the reticle’s projection. The optic is notable for utilizing the ACRO footprint and maintaining a unique low profile and large window. This low profile is made possible placing the emitter at the top of the optic rather than the bottom. The large window facilitates rapid target acquisition and tracking in addition to a clear sight picture. Featuring a ruggedized construction, the optic is designed to hold up to the rigors of duty and martial use. Where is the Steiner MPS Made?

Despite Steiner being a German company, the Steiner MPS red dot sight is not made in Germany. The optic is actually manufactured in America at the company’s domestic manufacturing facility. Steiner has produced many products in the United States after their acquisitions of Laser Devices Inc. and Sensor Technology Systems. This is to say that shooters are supporting American industry and labor if they purchase a Steiner MPS red dot sight.

Steiner MPS Variants

Steiner produces two versions of their MPS reflex sight. These units come equipped with the same features and traits and only differ on the basis of color. Steiner offers the MPS with either a black or Flat Dark Earth (FDE) finish. The two offerings represent the two of most desirable colors for optics and firearm accessories. This allows shooters to select an MPS in a color that best suits their preference. We here at True Shot Ammo currently offer the black and Flat Dark Earth versions of the MPS.

Mounting the Steiner MPS

The Steiner MPS utilizes the increasingly common ACRO footprint introduced by Aimpoint. While not as prolific as the RMR footprint introduced by Trijicon, the ACRO footprint is becoming more common. The Steiner MPS is compatible with a wide range of optic mounting solutions which accommodate ACRO footprint optics. One can mount the MPS by simply tightening the clamp on the right side of the optic to spec. The wide range of compatible mounts spans optic plates for handguns to primary and offset or piggyback mounts. Despite being a pistol sight, the MPS can be mounted on handguns, rifles, shotguns, and subguns. As mentioned earlier, the optic can be used in either a primary or secondary capacity. Shooters can utilize the MPS as either a primary optic or an offset or piggybacked optic to support a scope.

Brightness Settings

The Steiner MPS is equipped with a total of 8 different brightness settings. 6 of these settings are intended for daylight use and are viable for many different lighting conditions. The remaining 2 settings are intended for use with night vision devices. Shooters can take advantage of these various settings to optimize the brightness of the MPS for their intended use case. Brightness is adjusted via the rubberized “+” and “-“ buttons on the left side of the optic. Steiner MPS Red Dot Sight Piggyback Mounted On Top of a Steiner T6xi Scope Purchase Ammo

Battery Life

The Steiner MPS is powered by a single CR1632 battery. This battery is loaded into the battery compartment located at the top of the optic body underneath a slotted cap. Steiner claims that the MPS has an estimated battery life of 13,000 hours. Replacement batteries for the unit are also readily available and can be had in reliable offerings with long shelf lives. One can extend their battery life by utilizing lower brightness levels and powering the unit off when not in use.

What is the Steiner MPS Good For?

As a pistol optic, the Steiner MPS is viable for many use cases. Naturally, the optic excels in recreational shooting use cases. The reflex sight makes plinking and engaging various targets a joy for shooters. The optic facilitates fast target acquisition and efficient target tracking, allowing shooters to engage and transition between targets. These traits not only make the optic great for recreation, but for more serious use cases as well. Specifically, use cases pertaining to self-defense and competition benefit from the aforementioned traits. Competition shooters and defensive users alike can effectively utilize this reflex sight for their intended use case. The rugged construction, night vision compatibility, and versatility of the optic make it viable for martial and duty use cases. In short, the Steiner MPS excels in many roles and is suitable for the needs of many shooters.

Conclusion

The Steiner MPS represents a solid choice for shooters in the market for a dependable and capable optic. Its versatile mounting footprint, efficient size, rugged construction, and features like night vision compatibility, the MPS appeals to many shooters.
