Today, we are going to delve into the light’s traits and features, use cases, and more. Without further ado, let’s talk about the Streamlight TLR-7 X.

Who is Streamlight?

Streamlight is a well-known producer of illumination tools. The company was founded in 1973 and produces a wide range of flashlights tailored towards various end users. Professions in military, law enforcement, firefighting, and other service-related roles drive the development of many Streamlight products. As such, many professionals in public safety and military roles currently employ Streamlight flashlights in their duties.

What is the TLR-7 X?

The Streamlight TLR-7 X flashlight represents one of the company’s most popular and versatile illumination tools. At its core, the TLR-7 X is a compact pistol light which can be effectively employed on many firearms. The light serves as an evolution of the company’s TLR-7 A and provides users with updated features. Notably, TLR-7 X lights are brighter than their predecessors and are compatible with the new Streamlight SL-B9 USB rechargeable battery. The light is activated via two switches at the rear of the unit, making it accessible with either hand. The light includes both high and low switches which can be swapped by the user easily to suit their preference. Like other Streamlight offerings, the TLR-7 X features a durable construction and boasts an IPX7 water resistance rating. TLR-7 X Pistol Light Purchase Ammo

Rail Grip Clamp

Like other offerings from Streamlight, the TLR-7 X utilizes the company’s rail grip clamp system. Streamlight includes a number of interchangeable keys which allow the light to be mounted to a variety of firearms. These keys accommodate various mounting styles such as 1913 and universal style mounting rails. This light can easily accommodate popular handguns from manufacturers such as Glock, Beretta, HK and more. The rail clamp system is tightened and loosened via the large screw on the left side of the unit.

TLR-7 X Compatibility

As mentioned above, as a pistol light, the TLR-7 X is well-suited for use on compact and full-size pistols. The keys included with the light allow it to be attached to nearly every accessory rail found on modern handguns. In addition to being viable for use on pistols, the TLR-7 X, can also be employed on larger firearms. Like other pistol lights, the TLR-7 X can effectively be used on hosts such as rifles, shotguns, and subguns. The light’s compact form factor and versatile mounting solution make it versatile and mounted efficiently on many hosts.

TLR-7 X Variants

As a flagship product, the TLR-7 X is available in various forms. The TLR-7 X is currently available from Streamlight in two different colorways. Streamlight produces TLR-7 X lights in black or Flat Dark Earth colorways. In addition to different color options, shooters can also choose between two potential batteries when purchasing a TLR-7 X. The unit can be had with either a single CR123A lithium battery or with the Streamlight SL-B9 rechargeable battery. We currently carry two models of the TLR-7 X here at True Shot Ammo. Both models that we stock are black in color and are available with either a CR123A battery or SL-B9 rechargeable battery.

Battery Life

As mentioned above, the Streamlight TLR-7 X has two potential power sources. The unit can be powered by either a single CR123A battery or by a SL-B9 rechargeable battery. Shooters can choose between relying on disposable, common batteries or utilize a new rechargeable option. Lights will either come with a single CR123A battery or a single SL-B9 battery with charging cable. Regardless of the selected battery, the TLR-7 X is ready to go out of the box. Batteries are loaded from the front of the unit by removing the head of the light. With two different power source options, shooters can expect two different potential runtimes. With a CR123A battery, Streamlight states that the unit has a runtime of about 1.5 hours. When powered by the rechargeable SL-B9 battery, the TLR-7 X has a stated runtime of about 1 hour. Of course, one can extend their practical battery life by using Illumination sparingly and in a momentary fashion. TLR-7 X Pistol Light Purchase Ammo

Output Specs

Key output specs to look out for in flashlights are lumens and candela. Lumens are used to measure a light source’s output in all directions. Candela refers to the output of a light source that is emitted in a single direction. Put plainly, lumens essentially refer to the potential overall brightness level and saturation of a light source while candela refers to the source’s throw and effective distance. Streamlight states that one can expect an output of 500 lumens when using the TLR-7 X. The candela output, or peak beam intensity, of the light is rated at 5,000 candela. Additionally, Streamlight also states that the TLR-7 X has an effective distance of 140 meters (approximately 153 yards). These output values allow this compact weaponlight to be utilized effectively for concealed carry or home defense.

What is the TLR-7 X Good For?

The TLR-7 X is an excellent choice for shooters who desire a capable illumination tool. This light is optimal for use on pistols used for home defense or concealed carry due to its compact nature. This light provides sufficient illumination for one’s surroundings, and importantly, to positively identify potential threats. In dark, defensive situations, positive target identification is key and can make all the difference in the world. The light strikes a balance between output and size, making it viable for many realistic defensive situations. With high performance and an affordable price point, the TLR-7 X provides shooters of all budgets with a capable weaponlight.
