What Do Tariffs Mean for the Ammunition Industry
Hi everyone, I'm Kyle Read, President and CEO of True Shot Ammo. First, I want to thank you for your business. Second, I'm here with an update to the question on everyone’s mind right now. What do the recent tariffs imposed mean for ammunition prices? The federal government has recently imposed significant tariffs that take effect April 9th. This will affect all imported ammunition and ammunition components. This matters because even American manufacturers rely on imported raw materials like brass casings and primers. When these components cost more, prices increase across the entire supply chain.
What do tariffs mean for ammo consumers?
We have been talking to suppliers since the tariffs were first announced to get a better understanding of their plans and so we can plan accordingly. Here are the three key points:
- First, we're projecting price increases of 10-40% on popular ammunition types within the next 60-90 days depending on the country of manufacture.
- Second, these increases will affect virtually all calibers, from everyday 9mm and .223 to specialty rounds.
- Third, supply chain disruptions may create temporary shortages in addition to price hikes.
What True Shot Ammo is doing to Help with Tariffs:
- We've stocked up so we can maintain current pricing as long as possible.
- We have increased the number of suppliers and countries we source ammunition from to mitigate risk.
- We will always be upfront about price changes and the factors driving them.
My Recommendations for buying ammo with tariffs:
- Consider securing a reasonable supply of your most-used ammunition. Prices are still at multi-year lows.
- Look into American-made options where possible as they will be less affected by tariffs.
- Sign up for our email and text alerts to stay informed about inventory and pricing.
With all of that said, remember that we have weathered similar industry challenges before, and we will get through this. True Shot Ammo remains committed to being your trusted source for quality ammunition. Thanks for your continued support. This is Kyle Read – I'll see you at the range.
