Where did Hornady Come From?

The Hornady that we know today actually began as The Hornady Sporting Goods Company. This was only short-lived however, as they went on to become the Hornady Manufacturing Company in 1949 when Joyce Hornady, its founder, decided to shift their focus from tennis rackets, baseball bats, and other sporting ‘goods’, to bullets. As the second World War ended, the economy began returning to normal, material shortages came to an end, and large surpluses of ammunition and the equipment needed to become available. The ammunition, however, was full metal jacket which was less than ideal for hunting. This gave Joyce Hornady the idea of developing and producing bullets designed for hunting that were accurate, deadly, and dependable. The first Hornady bullet was a .30-caliber 150-grain spire point, abullet that has, from the beginning, been one of the most popular in the Hornady line-up. At the start, Hornady was a small operation with Joyce and his son Steve working out of a garage. However, they soon gained a reputation for producing that accurate, deadly, and dependable ammunition that they had strived for, and the business began to grow. Over the years, Hornady expanded its facilities as well as its product line to include a wide range of ammunition for not only rifles but pistols and shotguns as well. Today, the company is still family owned and operated with a reputation for being one of the most innovative and qualitydriven companies in the ammunition industry, with production still happening where it all began in Grand Island, Nebraska. In addition to producing ammunition, Hornady also produces a variety of reloading tools and accessories, supporting today’s shooters that have the same passion as Joyce Hornady did almost a century ago. Hornady’s reloading products include high-quality and durable presses, dies, and powder measures, which are designed to help shooters and reloaders achieve the same accuracy and consistency that Hornady stands for throughout their own reloading processes. If you're looking for reliable and accurate ammunition for your rifle, pistol, or shotgun, or even if you are not in the market for factory made ammunition and are a reloader looking for quality reloading tools and accessories, Hornady will have you covered and has proven time and time again that they are a company that supports all aspects of their customer base.

Hunting With Hornady

When it comes to hunting ammo, visiting any sporting goods store or gun store can be overwhelming. You are greeted with a wide variety of ammo choices. Especially for novice hunters, selecting the "best" ammo from such a big selection can still be very difficult. Hornady manufacturing decided to take the guesswork out of the process and picture when they introduced their line of Hornady American Whitetail ammunition in 2013. They were so successful in this ammo that other companies have followed their lead with brands like Winchester and Federal Ammunitions. American Whitetail ammo is manufactured in the most popular deer hunting cartridges in use today. It is currently available in 6.5 Creedmoor, .270 Winchester, 7mm ammo, .243 Winchester, 30-30 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield and .300 Winchester. Hornady also produces their Superformance line-up which consists of mostly their rifle calibers. This ammo is claimed to be 100 to 200 fps faster without extra chamber pressure, recoil, muzzle blast, temp sensitivity, fouling or loss of accuracy than conventional ammunition. The Superformance line- up uses ultra-progressive propellants to achieve velocities that are unattainable with conventional propellants. Many avid hunters swear by Superformance. With its consistent and versatile properties, it's hard to beat this line-up for hunting. Hornady have been producing innovative hunting ammunition in a variety of different loadings. With Whitetail and Superformance being one of their popular line-ups, this does not cover the vast majority of ammo they produce. Hornady is a great choice for hunting ammunition. Depending on what game you are hunting, Hornady will have a specific caliber and line-up specifically for what you need. Hornady Superformance Hornady Superformance .270mm ammunition
