ammunition offerings and produces many loadings. Our goal here today is to provide a brief overview of the company while delving into their product offerings, traits, and other pertinent information. Without further ado, let’s cover
Corbon.
What is Corbon?
Corbon is an
ammunition manufacturer well-known for their defensive loadings. The company was founded in 1982 in Detroit, Michigan by Peter Pi Sr. The company was founded with the desire to create hollow point
ammunition which would reliably expand upon impact. While initially intended for hunting usage, the hollow point manufacturing techniques used by
Corbon expanded into defensive loadings. The company acquired Glaser, an
ammunition manufacturer well-known for their Safety Slug loadings in 2002. Currently, the company is based in Ohio and produces a wide range of
ammunition product lines. These lines encompass hunting loadings, defensive loadings, and match loadings. The company moved to their present location in Ohio in 2017.
Where is Corbon Ammunition Made?
Corbon ammunition is currently produced in the United States at their present Ohio location. In addition to producing components of their own,
Corbon also utilizes
ammunition components from other notable companies. Notably,
Corbon’s Performance Match offerings utilize Lapua,
Sierra, Berger, and Berry’s projectiles to maximize their accuracy potential.
The Corbon Method
Corbon was able to help ensure reliable expansion with their hollow points by producing loadings with light projectiles which travel at high velocities. The idea behind this design choice is that these lighter hollow points would travel at high velocities be more conducive to expansion once they impacted the target. The result was reliable and consistent expansion coupled with a considerable degree of kinetic energy transfer.

Corbon currently produces
ammunition in both pistol and rifle calibers. The company does not produce shotgun
ammunition at this time. Everything from defensive, hunting, match, and subsonic loadings are offered by the company in their various product lines.
Corbon JHP – This is the product line that put

Corbon Urban Response – This product line from
Corbon represents the company’s offering designed to prevent over-penetration while still providing adequate effect on target.
Corbon claims that this loading is suitable for self-defense in environments like subdivisions, apartment complexes, and even mobile home parks. This product line can be found in pistol and rifle loadings in the form of popular calibers such as
9mm Luger and
.223 Remington.
DPX – This line of
ammunition is available in both pistol and rifle form. The company’s
DPX, or “
Deep Penetrating X-Panding,” projectiles feature a solid copper projectile with a hollow point. These projectiles also feature serrations which help facilitate reliable expansion. The rifle loadings in this line feature polymer tips which aid in improving the ballistic performance of the round. This line includes popular calibers such as
.380 ACP, .400 Corbon,
.44 Magnum,
.223 Remington, and
.30-06 Springfield.
DPX Hunter – This product line represents hunting offerings from
Corbon which utilize the company’s
DPX projectile. Hunters in certain areas and states will appreciate these loadings in particular due to their lead-free nature. By utilizing a copper projectile, these loadings comply with restrictions on lead
ammunition, a reality faced by hunters in states like California. Many popular rifle calibers such as
.30-06 Springfield and
.308 Winchester are covered by this line.
Glaser Pow’RBall – This loading was introduced in 2004 and essentially seeks to bridge the gap between ball and hollow point
ammunition. These projectiles feature a reshaped bullet cavity which is plugged by a polymer ball. These loadings facilitate both reliable feeding and consistent expansion and are available in multiple handgun calibers. The calibers covered by Pow’RBall loadings range from .357 Sig, .38 Special, and even 9mm Makarov.
Glaser Safety Slug – The Glaser Safety Slug is available in both Blue and Silver varieties. Essentially, this product line serves as a commercial offering of the loading developed for Air Marshal use in 1974. These loadings are capable of being employed in more sensitive environments such as aircraft. These loadings feature a payload of shot which is encased within a thin copper jacket. The Blue line of Safety Slugs are intended to be used as a more general-purpose self-defense loading. The projectile will stay in one solid piece until it strikes its target, spreading the #12 shot within the target. The Silver Safety Slugs feature #6 shot and are designed to achieve deeper penetration than Blue Safety Slugs. These Safety Slugs are available in a number of handgun calibers such as
9mm Luger,
.45 ACP, and
.38 Special to name a few.
Multi-Purpose Rifle – While these loadings feature a green tip, they are a far cry from an M855 loading. The Multi-Purpose Rifle product line from
Corbon feature hollow point projectiles with green special resin tips, match grade jackets, and uniform boattails. These loadings are designed to achieve a high ballistic coefficient, reduce drag, and facilitate reliable feeding in magazine-fed firearms. As the name suggests, these loadings are available in rifle calibers. The product line includes
.22-250 Remington,
.223 Remington,
.300 Blackout, and
.30-06 Springfield to name a few of the offered calibers.

Original Cartridges
Corbon also produced and introduced some original cartridges to the market. Two of these cartridges, the .32 NAA and .25 NAA, were introduced as part of a collaboration with North American Arms. Another notable original cartridge produced by
Corbon is the .400 Corbon. This round was introduced in 1996 and is essentially a
.45 ACP case necked down to accept .40 caliber projectiles.
Is Corbon Ammunition Reloadable?
Corbon ammunition consists of brass casings and Boxer primers. The use of Boxer primers means that primers can easily be removed and replaced with the proper tools. Berdan primers tend to be sized inconsistently and can be more difficult to remove in some cases than their Boxer counterparts.
Is Corbon Ammunition Corrosive?
Corbon is an American producer of high-quality
ammunition. The company does not utilize corrosive primers in their loadings. As mentioned above, the company utilizes Boxer primers in their products. Most Boxer primers will be non-corrosive in nature. Simply put, shooters will not have to worry about potential corrosion when shooting
Corbon ammunition.
