Hey all, we here at True Shot Academy wanted to discuss Crimson Trace. In this blog post, we are going to provide a brief overview of the company and some of the products that they offer. Without further ado, let’s get into it.
What is Crimson Trace?
Crimson Trace is an American company which manufactures a variety of firearms accessories. Founded in 1994, the Oregon-based company acquired a reputation with their laser sights which would be affixed to either the trigger guard or frame of a handgun. Originally known for their laser sights, the company has since branched into other firearms accessories and equipment such as flashlights, red dot sights, scopes, and even rangefinders and binoculars.
Like most companies, their catalogue and offerings have evolved over the years to suit modern tastes and needs. The company was purchased by Smith & Wesson in 2016 for $95 million, a move which has led to the inclusion of Crimson Trace products with many Smith & Wesson firearms.

Lasers
When people think of Crimson Trace, lasers typically are the first thing to come to mind. Even their name evokes the mental image of a red laser sight. These types of products continue to be the company’s bread and butter as they manufacture a variety of lasers which fit a wide variety of firearms. Whether you have a revolver, pistol, or a long gun, Crimson Trace will likely have an option for you.
Lasers are offered with a variety of attachment methods which range from picatinny, trigger guard, and even grip or frame mounted solutions. Most lasers are available in either red or green, giving end users a bit of a choice as far as choosing a color that is most visible to them. Some options are even available with an integrated flashlight to complement the laser unit.
Flashlights
Crimson Trace offers a variety of flashlights in both handheld or weapon mounted form. When it comes to weapon mounted lights, there are options for both handguns and long guns alike. Like some of the laser options, there are flashlight offerings which attach to handguns via a picatinny rail or by clamping over the trigger guard. Specific options for long gun usage are also prevalent such as the RIG and CMR-301 offerings which can utilize pressure pads to facilitate activation. Whether you want a handheld or weapon mounted flashlight, Crimson Trace has you covered.
Red Dot Sights
The company has also become a provider of electronic optics for firearms in recent years. These red dot sight offerings from Crimson Trace encompass traditional style and micro red dot sights, making their catalogue able to accommodate a wide variety of firearms. Like their lasers, the red dot sights are available in both red and green colors.
Riflescopes
Traditional magnified optics are also offered by Crimson Trace in the form of their riflescopes. The company offers a variety of scopes in both low and high magnification ranges and in both first focal plane (FFP) and second focal plane (SFP) varieties. Scopes are offered in both HardLine and BrushLine varieties with multiple reticles calibrated for different calibers and types of shooting. Caliber-specific reticles cover cartridges such as
.22 Long Rifle,
