These are two popular of the most popular high-end micro red dot sights which are enjoyed by shooters of all types. Our goal in this blog post is to compare and contrast these two iconic red dot sights while delving into some of their features, traits, and more. Without further ado, let’s compare the Trijicon RMR and the Aimpoint ACRO.
What is a Trijicon RMR?
The Trijicon RMR line of products represents the company’s duty-rated micro red dot sights. The RMR is one of the most established and proven red dot sights of its class and is offered in a variety of models and variants. The RMR line of micro red dot sights are available in multiple colorways and with different reticle size and power options. As far as power options go, the RMR is available in either CR2032 battery powered models or in Dual-Illumination models. The LED battery powered models boast a battery life of roughly four years and utilize CR2032 batteries. While Trijicon produces many RMRs, we are mainly going to be focusing on the Type 2 RMR (RM06).
What is an Aimpoint ACRO?
The Aimpoint ACRO entered the market recently and represents the company’s debut into the realm of modern micro red dot sights. The ACRO sets itself apart from the competition due to its status as an enclosed emitter red dot sight. Many of the other red dot sights of this type feature open emitters and are more prone to having the reticle distorted due to damage or debris occluding the emitter. The current ACRO offering from Aimpoint is the P-2, an improved version of the initial P-1 which boasts a more robust battery life and new controls. The ACRO is currently available in black, Flat Dark Earth, and sniper grey colors. The ACRO utilizes the common CR2032 battery and offers over 50,000 hours, or just over five years of battery life.

Trijicon is an American manufacturer of
optics that was founded in 1981. Headquartered in Wixom, Michigan, the company is well-known for the wide range of
optics they have produced since their inception. Notably, the company produces a number of
optics which utilize tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen, to illuminate reticles. Tritium has been used by Trijicon for many of their products such as reflex sights, riflescopes, and their iconic ACOGs. Many of the
optics produced by Trijicon have been utilized by the United States military and other members of NATO. Iconic ACOG models such as the TA01 NSN, TA31 RCO, and TA648 are among the ACOGs used by the United States military. A variety of red dot sights and reflex sights produced by the company are/were still used by militaries across the globe. In addition to military personnel, many law enforcement agencies and shooters also utilize Trijicon products.
Who is Aimpoint?
Aimpoint is one of the most prominent and recognizable
optics manufacturers in the world. The company is based in Malmo, Sweden and was founded in 1974. The company is notable for being the first to introduce an electronic sight which utilized LED technology. The first commercial product offered by the company was their Aimpoint Electronic in 1975, an offering tailored towards hunters and sport shooters. These early sights offered a simple and reliable aiming solution which facilitates rapid target acquisition and tracking. Eventually, the company’s work with red dot sights would lead to them being employed in a variety of law enforcement and military roles, finding themselves in use with a variety of professional end users. Notably, the United States military is a large adopter of Aimpoint red dot sights, with over 2 million units being delivered since 1997. Additionally, many law enforcement agencies at various levels (local, state, federal) utilize Aimpoint
optics for duty use.
Pros and Cons: Trijicon RMR
Pros:
- Long track record of service with armed professionals and civilian shooters. The design has proven itself to be reliable and rugged in use with users of all types.
- Common mounting footprint which has since been adopted by red dot sights from competitors. Many mounts also adhere to the RMR footprint, making it a well-established standard as far as micro red dot mounting goes.
- There are more Trijicon RMR variants than there are variants for the Aimpoint ACRO. This means that customers will have more potential offerings to choose from when selecting an RMR. Things such as reticle size, power source (LED or Dual-Illumination), and different colorways are among the various RMRs offered by Trijicon.
Cons:
- Open emitter style construction allows for the emitter to potentially become damage or blocked by debris.
- The Trijicon RMR’s battery can only be replaced by taking the optic off of its mount. This is because the battery is mounted on the bottom of the optic and is inaccessible while it is installed on a firearm.
- When compared to the Aimpoint ACRO, the LED powered RMR Type 2 from Trijicon boasts a shorter battery life. The Trijicon RMR has a stated battery life of over four years of continuous use at setting 4 of 8. The Aimpoint ACRO has a stated battery life of over five years of continuous use at setting 6 of 10
Pros and Cons: Aimpoint ACRO
Pros:
- The ACRO features an enclosed emitter, meaning that the LED is protected by the housing. The enclosed emitter is safe from external interference and potential damage unlike its open emitter counterparts. Things such as rain, mud, snow, and even lint can distort the image of an open emitter red dot sight.
- The Aimpoint ACRO features an easily accessible battery on the left side of the optic. This battery placement allows for an end user to quickly and easily swap the battery out for a fresh one should the need arise. In order to do this on a Trijicon RMR, one will need to remove the optic from its mount to access the battery at the bottom of the optic.
- The Aimpoint ACRO boasts a superior battery life over the Trijicon RMR. Aimpoint states that the ACRO is capable of achieving over five years of constant operation on setting 6 of 10. This is longer than Trijicon’s RM06 Type 2 variant of the RMR which boasts a four year battery life.
Cons:
- Not as proven or established as the Trijicon RMR. The ARCO is a newer sight produced by a very reputable company. While Aimpoint is a high-end company, this offering simply has not been around as long as the Trijicon RMR.
- The ACRO mounting footprint is proprietary and not nearly as prevalent as the footprint established by the RMR. While some companies utilize the ACRO mounting footprint and it is supported with mounting solutions from a variety of companies, it is simply not as common or established as the RMR footprint.
- There are fewer Aimpoint ACRO offerings than there are RMR models. This means that there are fewer models and variants of the ACRO available for consideration.

Both the Trijicon RMR and Aimpoint ACRO are solid options for a variety of uses. Both
optics can be mounted onto a variety of firearms and are compatible with versatile mounting solutions. These red dot sights are both well-suited on pistols, rifles, shotguns, and subguns alike. They excel as either primary
optics or as secondary
optics in either a piggyback or offset capacity. Both
optics feature rugged construction and clear glass, making them durable enough for hard use and usable in a variety of conditions. The two red dot
optics are also equipped with multiple brightness settings, with both types of sights featuring night vision specific modes.
