Hey all, we here at True Shot Academy are going to go over Trijicon, a prominent force in the realm of optics. The company produces a wide variety of sighting systems which include red dots, prism sights, and traditional style scopes that appeal to shooters of all types. Our goal with this blog post is to provide a brief overview of Trijicon while delving into some of their traits, product offerings, and more. Now, let’s talk Trijicon.
Who is Trijicon?
Trijicon is an American manufacturer of optics that was founded in 1981. Headquartered in Wixom, Michigan, the company is well-known for the wide range of optics they have produced since their inception. Notably, the company produces a number of optics which utilize tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen, to illuminate reticles. Tritium has been used by Trijicon for many of their products such as reflex sights, riflescopes, and their iconic ACOGs. Many of the optics produced by Trijicon have been utilized by the United States military and other members of NATO. Iconic ACOG models such as the TA01 NSN, TA31 RCO, and TA648 are among the ACOGs used by the United States military. A variety of red dot sights and reflex sights produced by the company are/were still used by militaries across the globe. In addition to military personnel, many law enforcement agencies and shooters also utilize Trijicon products.
Where are Trijicon Products Made?
An overwhelming majority of the products offered by Trijicon are produced in the United States. Many of the company’s popular products such as the ACOG, RMR, VCOG, MRO, MGRS, thermal sights, and iron sights are produced domestically. Domestic production of Trijicon products takes place in the company’s facilities in Wixom, Michigan and Auburn, California. The riflescopes offered by Trijicon utilize significant components such as glass from Japan with final assembly and production taking place in the United States. This is also the case for high end optics offered by companies such as Nightforce and Vortex Optics. All in all, most of the offerings from Trijicon are manufactured in the United States, with some components for specific product lines coming from Japan.

Tritium and Dual-Illumination Offerings
Trijicon is well-known in the industry for their use of tritium in optics and their many dual-illumination offerings. The use of tritium effectively eliminates the need for batteries as tritium is a radioactive isotope which produces its own illumination. This means that these types of sights are always “on” and will never need to be fumbled with or configured to get ready for action. While tritium is luminous on its own, its overall illumination may be lacking in some lighting conditions and environments. This is where dual-illumination offerings come into play. These offerings utilize both tritium and fiber optic technology to illuminate or produce a reticle. These types of sights are commonly found in the form of the company’s ACOG offerings and in some RMR offerings.
Red Dot Offerings
Trijicon currently offers a variety of red dot optics. The offerings from Trijicon can easily be utilized on rifles, pistols, shotguns, and subguns as they have versatile mounting options. These red dots can be found in the form of micro red dot sights and standard style red dot sights. The micro dots come in the form of the venerable RMR and SRO optic lines. Recently, Trijicon released an enclosed emitter micro red dot sight compatible with the RMR footprint in the form of their new RCR. As far as standard style red dot sights go, the company produces heir MRO line of red dot sights in a variety of configurations. Legacy red dot products such as the SRS helped establish the company’s reputation as a red dot sight manufacturer. Most of the red dot offerings from the company are compatible with night vision and feature designated illumination settings for this type of shooting. This allows end users to effectively employ these red dot sights with their NODs and shoot at night.
Prism Sight Offerings
The prism sight offerings from Trijicon are among some of their most well-known and iconic optics they produce. These offerings come to the market in the form of the ACOG, or Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight. As prism optics, the ACOG models feature a fixed level of magnification and etched reticles. These types of optics can range from 1.5x, 2x, 3x, 3.5x, 4x, 5.5x, and 6x magnification. The most common ACOGs encountered by most shooters will be in the form of the 3.5x TA11 and 4x TA31 line of ACOGs. Etched ACOG reticles also feature some form of illumination provided by tritium, tritium and fiber optics, or battery-powered LEDs. The reticles on the ACOGs are also calibrated for specific loadings and barrel lengths, allowing end users to select an ACOG best suited for their type of shooting. For example, there are models of TA31 ACOGs which are designated for calibers such as 5.56x45mm NATO/.223 Remington, .300 Blackout, 6.8 SPC, and 7.62x51mm NATO to name a few.
Scope Offerings
Trijicon offers multiple traditional scope offerings. These scopes include LPVO, or low power variable optic, offerings and higher magnification offerings. The scopes offered by the company also come in either first focal plane (FFP) or second focal plane (SFP) form. Scopes from Trijicon’s Tenmile, Credo, Ascent, Huron, and AccuPoint product lines are available in low and high magnification ranges. Trijicon’s scopes cater to a wide variety of shooters and firearms. If you are running a 16” AR-15, you will be well-served by one of the company’s LPVO offerings from the Credo or AccuPoint line. If you are doing some hunting or some longer range shooting, one can browse the higher magnification offerings to find an appropriate scope for your needs. The scopes offered by Trijicon are also available with a variety of reticle types, allowing an end user to select a scope with a reticle best suited for their preferences. Trijicon also offers an LVPO which shares a footprint with their ACOG line of products known as the VCOG. This scope essentially combines ACOG durability with the ability to switch levels of magnification like a traditional scope. Unlike most ACOGs, the VCOG features an LED illuminated reticle.
Tritium Iron Sight Offerings
Trijicon also offers a number of night sights for handgun and rifle use. These iron sights utilize tritium vials housed in durable metal construction. The handgun offerings are manufactured for a variety of popular pistols from companies such as Glock, Heckler & Koch, CZ, FN, and more. The pistol sights are also available in forms such as their HD and XR lines. The HD models feature a bright, luminescent ring around the tritium in the front sight while the XRs feature a construction and profile conducive to precise shooting. There is even a hybrid HD XR offering which combines the traits of the HD and XR line into a single package. The company also produces suppressor height pistol sights which clear the tube diameter of a suppressor and allow for one to cowitness the sights with a slide mounted optic. As far as the rifle-oriented options go, Trijicon offers front and rear sights for use in AR-15 style iron sight housings. These offerings are designed to fit into a variety of sight housings and feature tritium illumination to help an end user line their sights up in low-light conditions.

Other Offerings
Beyond the aforementioned offerings, Trijicon has a variety of other product offerings. Notably, the company offers a magnifier which can be used to compliment red dot and holographic sights. Trijicon bundles this sight with their MRO red dot sight to provide their end users with a versatile and capable setup. The company also offers a variety of sighting systems for archery use, providing bow hunters with effective sighting solutions to use in the field. Trijicon also produces a variety of mounts and accessories to be used with their various optic lines.
