Barnes - VOR-TX - 308 Winchester - 130 Grain - TTSX

This 130 grain TTSX is one of my favorite loads for the . 308 Win. I've been using Barnes Vor-TX ammunition for for over 13 years now. I started using it in 55 grain TSX . 223 Rem with my daughter who started deer hunting at 9 years old in OK. I moved her up to a . 300 Savage when she was 12 as the . 223 wasn't legal for big game in our home state of CO.

She hammered several whitetail, pronghorn, but failed on her first elk with the 130 TTSX in her . 300 Savage. We couldn't get her close enough at 12 years old for her to feel comfortable with the shot. A couple of years later I bought her a Howa Alpine . 308 Win and started her shooting factory Vor-TX 130 grain ammunition. That way I didn't have to worry about her needing me to reload ammunition for the . 300 Savage she had been using.

I was the first to connect with elk using the 130 grain TTSX ammunition taking a small 5 point bull back in 2021. The 130 grain bullet gave great penetration at over 250 yards dropping the bull on the first shot breaking both front shoulders.

Before elk season I had tried the 150 and 168 grain Vor-TX ammunition in my . 308 Win as well. However, after chronographing all three bullet types, the 130 grain delivered a faster, flatter trajectory and had more energy on impact out to 400 yards than the other two bullets in my . 308 Win with 18" barrel.

My daughter finally connected with a cow elk and Barnes Vor-TX ammunition a week ago. She'll be 22 in Jan and she's filled 3 out of four elk tags now. This makes her first rifle elk using Barnes ammunition. Prior ammunition shortages left us using other bullets or a muzzleloader to hunt.
