Federal - 22 LR - #12 Bird Shot - 25 Grain

Any 22 LR shot cartridge has limited range in a rifled barrel , the shot is slung out of the barrel by the rifling and gives an inconsistent pattern . That being said said it is effective in killing rodents and snakes at short distances , 10ft would get the job done , however if you are fortunate enough to own a smooth bore 22lr it is in effect a miniature shotgun and greatly improves the range with this type of ammunition. So 60+ feet is not out of the question . The crimped style load in my experience has always out performed the capsule style 22 shot cartridge , The only advantage of capsule style is ease of extraction or ejection , especially in 22 autos .
