    . 223 62gr FMJ Federal

Shot 19 and pulled 1 down. At 300 yards with 16 in barrel iron sights and 74 year old eyes, these had a mild recoil and carried true to center of steel target. The 55 gr bullets usually hit bottom of steel torso. So, it appears the 62 grained does carry well at 300. The pulled bullet was perfect in every way. Exterior very shiny. Would buy again and rec to a friend.

Does this ammo have a steel penetrator in the slug, i.e. is it drawn to a magnet?

    True Shot Ammo

    Hey!

Unfortunately, Federal American Eagle .223 Rem 62 Grain FMJBT is generally loaded with a lead core bullet and does not contain a steel penetrator like M855/SS109 ammunition.

Bullet Type: 62 gr FMJBT (Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail)
    Core Material: Lead
    Steel Penetrator: No
Magnetic: Typically, not magnetic (unless a particular lot uses a bi-metal jacket, which Federal American Eagle .223 62 gr FMJBT normally does not).

If the product in question is the standard Federal American Eagle .223 Remington 62 gr FMJBT (AE223N), it is a conventional lead-core projectile and should not be attracted to a magnet. Only Federal's M855/Green Tip loads contain the steel penetrator and are magnetic.

Does this ammunition use military-spec crimped primers?

    Customer Service

No, this is standard commercial .223 Rem and does not feature a primer pocket crimp.

Can I safely shoot this American Eagle .223 Rem ammo in my bolt-action hunting rifle?

    Customer Service

Yes, absolutely. Firing standard pressure .223 Remington in any rifle chambered for .223 Rem or 5.56 NATO is completely safe and highly accurate. This 55-grain load is an excellent choice for varmint hunting or target practice.

    Is the bullet jacket bimetal?

    Customer Service

No, it features a traditional non-magnetic copper jacket and a solid lead core.

    Customer Service
