Hey all, we here at True Shot Academy want to go over Sterling ammunition. The company provides a wide variety of ammunition which can be utilized by a litany of popular firearms. Our goal is to provide a brief overview of the company while going over some of their offerings and other relevant information. Without further ado, let’s get into it and answer the question: “what is Sterling ammunition?”

About Sterling Ammunition

Turac Sterling, often simply called Sterling, was founded in 1987 and produces ammunition. The company is based in Çankırı, Turkey and produces handgun, rifle, and shotgun ammunition. The ammunition offerings from Sterling cover multiple calibers and are intended for various use cases. Popular calibers such as 9mm Luger, .45 ACP, 5.56x45mm NATO, and 12 gauge are represented by their product offerings. With a wide array of product offerings, Sterling appeals to shooters of all types.

Is Sterling Ammunition Reloaded or Factory New?

Sterling ammunition is available in both reloaded and factory new conditions. These loadings encompass handgun, rifle, and shotgun ammunition offerings. Pistol and rifle calibers are offered in both brass case and steel case form.

Frangible Ammunition

Sterling produces frangible ammunition in 5.56x45mm NATO and 9mm Luger. These loadings are designed to disintegrate when they impact a hard target. These allow shooters to engage steel targets from close ranges without the risk of ricochets or spalling occurring. Typically, frangible projectiles consist entirely of (or a combination of) non-lead materials. These are typically copper or polymer and allow the projectile to disintegrate upon impact. This also provides the shooter with lead-free ammunition.

Less Lethal Ammunition

Besides typical loadings, the company also offers a variety of less lethal ammunition. These less lethal options encompass 12 gauge, 9mm Luger, 7.62×39, and 5.56x45mm NATO loadings. These options range from rubber bullet offerings to the company’s Bombastic sound cartridge line. Essentially, these loadings are intended to be as close to nonlethal as possible. It should also be noted that even things described as less lethal are still capable of inflicting serious harm.

Handgun Ammunition Offerings

Sterling offers a variety of handgun ammunition options. These ammunition offerings encompass .32 ACP, 9mm Luger, and .45 ACP. 9mm Luger loadings in particular are offered in full metal jacket (FMJ), jacketed hollow point (JHP), frangible, and less lethal options to name a few. Subsonic 9mm Luger is also offered by the company. Handgun ammunition from the company is typically intended for training, defense, and general-purpose target shooting use.

Rifle Ammunition Offerings

Sterling produces multiple rifle ammunition options. These offerings encompass popular calibers such as 5.56x45mm NATO, 7.62×39, 7.62x51mm NATO, and .308 Winchester. These offerings are available in FMJ, soft point (SP) frangible, and less lethal varieties. Product offerings encompass a variety of grain weights and include loadings such as M855 and M80 ball.  Rifle ammunition is produced for uses such as training, hunting, self-defense, and general-purpose shooting.

Shotgun Shells

Additionally, the company offers multiple shotgun ammunition options. These products encompass hunting, defensive, and general purpose range loadings. Shotgun calibers offered by Sterling encompass 12 gauge, 16 gauge, 20 gauge, 28 gauge, and many more. Sterling also offers a variety of shotgun loadings appropriate for game such as quail, duck, and rabbit just to name a few. Besides hunting ammunition, the company offers loadings intended for defense, sporting use, and general-purpose shooting.

Is Sterling Ammunition Reloadable?

Depending upon the ammunition purchased, Sterling ammunition may be reloadable. Brass cased ammunition is able to be reloaded. Generally speaking, steel cased ammunition is inefficient to reload. The process of reloading steel casings is considerably harder on equipment than typical brass casings. This is especially evident when it comes to the process of depriming and repriming casings. Also, one will find that steel is much more stubborn than brass and is not nearly as malleable. Furthermore, one will struggle with whether it is worth going through the process of attempting to load steel cased ammunition rather than just buying more ammunition. It should also be noted that it one should not attempt to reload factory reloads. The materials have already been subjected to the firing process multiple times and it is simply safer to not attempt to reload remanufactured ammunition.

Conclusion

All in all, Sterling manufactures ammunition for a wide variety of firearms. Offerings spanning pistol, rifle, and shotgun loads appeal to multiple end users with varied use cases.
