Hey all, we here at True Shot Academy are going to go over Turan Ammunition today. The company produces high quantities of ammunition and has grown significantly throughout its existence. The goal of this blog post is to provide a brief overview of the company while exploring some of Turan’s product offerings and traits. Without further ado, let’s get to know more about Turan.
Turan Ammunition, often simply called Turan, was founded in 1997 in Üzümlü, Turkey. The country originally manufactured firearms and pivoted to ammunition production in 2007. By 2022 and 2023, the company noticed an increased demand for cartridges like 5.56x45mm NATO and 7.62×39. In response to this, the company expanded its infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities to meet demand. Currently, the company produces a significant amount of ammunition and has made a considerable impact on the commercial market.
Turan is manufactured in the country of Turkey. Ammunition is produced at the company’s Üzümlü location which has grown and expanded over the years. After realizing the demand for cartridges such as 9mm Luger and 5.56x45mm NATO, the company invested in its production capabilities to increase their output. The production takes place in a 130,000 square foot facility which utilizes specialized machinery to aid in the manufacturing of ammunition. Notably, an overwhelming majority of the ammunition produced by Turan is manufactured for export purposes. As far as production goes, the company possesses a number of certifications, such as their ISO 9001 certification. The company is also authorized to label their 9mm Luger loadings with C.I.P. markings.
Turan offers a variety of centerfire cartridges in pistol and rifle form. As far as current handgun ammunition offerings go, the company offers 9mm Luger. The 9mm Luger loadings range from standard 115 and 124 grain full metal jacket (FMJ) loadings to Turan’s Range and Practice line designed for training purposes. The company also produces 9mm Luger blanks.
As far as current rifle ammunition offerings go, Turan produces multiple 5.56x45mm NATO loadings and one .223 Remington load. One of the 5.56x45mm NATO loadings offered by the company is an SS109 spec loading. This particular loading is similar to the M855 Green Tip loadings on the market as these rounds also feature steel-tipped bullets. The other 5.56x45mm NATO product and single .223 Remington loading offered by the Turan are of the 55 grain variety and feature FMJ projectiles. These two loadings are optimal choices for general plinking and training purposes.
As mentioned earlier, the company at one point produced 7.62×39 ammunition, but does not currently offer loadings in this caliber. While Turan offers a small range of calibers, the company does cater to some of the most popular chamberings on the market. These offerings are available in individual box quantities as well as in bulk quantities.
The loadings offered by Turan do not utilize steel casings. Often times, steel was used to produce casings as a cost cutting measure. This practice is common in Eastern European countries, particularly those which were former members of the Soviet Union. Turan utilizes brass casings in their loadings. Simply put, one will encounter brass casings on Turan products rather than steel casings.
As mentioned above, steel casings are not present in Turan loadings. This alone makes the reloading process much easier as steel casings are hard to reload and hard on reloading equipment. Turan loadings utilize Boxer primers, making them easy to reload due to the consistent sizing of these types of primers. This would be a much more difficult task if Berdan primers were used. The presence of Boxer primers and brass casings make Turan ammunition reloadable.
Typically, loadings which utilize Berdan primers will be corrosive in nature. This is to say, that these loadings will release corrosive salts into the action and bore of the firearm when fired. If not addressed and cleaned promptly and properly, these corrosive salts can be harmful to your firearm. As mentioned in the previous section, Turan utilizes Boxer primers in their loadings. Shooters can rest easy knowing that these loadings are not corrosive and will not erode their firearms.
Ammunition produced by Turan is economically priced. While prices of ammunition and most things in the firearms industry tend to fluctuate, Turan products tend to be cheaper than most of their counterparts. The cost of these loadings is kept down due to the fact that they are utilizing standard projectile types such as FMJ and SS109 type bullets. If specialized and premium projectiles such as Sierra MatchKing or Hornady ELD-X bullets were utilized, prices will understandably increase. The imported nature of this ammunition also makes it a bit cheaper in the United States as consumers are not having to pay for American parts and labor. At the end of the day, Turan’s affordable ammunition offerings can be purchased in high quantities to ensure more trips to the range.
All in all, Turan caters to shooters with their offerings of commonly used calibers. The cartridges represented by Turan’s product offerings are some of the most popular calibers among shooters in the United States. The affordable nature of the ammunition and its availability in bulk quantities provide shooters with excellent value.
